This is the first of quite a few clips that were shot at GruvGear HQ in California. David, Ricky and I are all proud GruvGear artists and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to play with these giants.
Look for more clips, info on the gear and downloads for the audio and video at GruvGear SESSIONS !
Look for more coming to you soon! As always, check the GruvGear page and sign up for the mailing list as we have a LOT of very cool things in the works!
Video was also shot with the support of Aguilar Amplification and Skjold Designs basses as David and I are both huge supporters of those great companies!
I’ve decided to start offering private and personalized video lessons to interested players.. Partially meant to help some folks and be used as an addendum to my instructional booklet, but also as a means of connecting with other players around the world that I just physically can’t connect with in person. While I’ve done some teaching via Skype, it seems a tad clunky to me. I believe that this may be the answer! I am also always happy to follow up with further lessons of course, or answer any questinos via email or the social networking site of your choice…
Here’s the skinny:
- you give me a rough sketch (as detailed as you care to be) of the topics you’d like me to cover
- I’ll make an hour or longer video covering the topics
- in addition to a password protected streaming video of the lesson on my website I will also send a link to download the video to your computer for your own keeping and reference.
- pricing:
$75 via paypal or check for the streaming/full download option
$80 for the streaming video + a cd-r mailed to you via snail-mail.
Photo by P.B. Photography Q: I am at a stage with playing jazz where I feel confident playing bass lines, such as walking through challenging pieces. Given time to learn the chord sequence, I am pretty confident at playing solos over the top of backing tracks and grooves. My problem is that when playing with... […]

Photo by istolethetv Q: I’m not a professional musician, but lately I’ve been performing a lot more often. I play both upright bass and bass guitar, and I like to play just about any style of music: pop, funk, folk, jazz. These two things have made me somewhat “in demand” in part-timers’ circles and has... […]
Q: How do I improve my playing by using the three-finger technique and yet maintain the groove with my thumb? A: Something I’ve come across with many students is a preconception of how they want to use their thumb. With some students, this has actually stood as an obstacle to their growth. I think this... For quite some time, my go-to tuner app for iOS has been ClearTune (see my earlier review). So when I was asked to check out insTuner, I figured that if nothing else, I would be able to write a review about it. As it turns out, I’m switching iOS tuners. insTuner is a fantastically pleasing... […]
Photo by kmlz Q: I seem to have an issue with consistency. I seem to be able to pull certain licks and lines together when practicing, but it always falls apart when I’m actually playing with the band. Any tricks to develop consistency? A: Tricks? No. But I do have some thoughts. 1. Context I... […]
